I often suggest that we go somewhere meaningful to a couple for their engagement shoot. I feel it must be special for them to be in surroundings they love, and it helps me to learn more about what is important to them. Mike & Kate chose Bala, deep in mid North Wales, where his parents have a home and where the two of them have spent Christmas for many years.
The house overlooks the lake at the centre of Bala. No motorised vehicles are allowed, so the peace is preserved as dozens of little sail boats take turns around the water. We walk off into the old Oak woodland, carpeted in ferns and moss. Dark, comforting, magical. We walk through and up onto the hill tops to view the valleys around, and the dramatic rolling clouds. It is so peaceful.
Mike & Kate tell us tales of their story, from then to now, and a little of their dreams. They are respectful and close, and a lot of fun to be with. They invited us to stay and we shared food and laughter and I got a lot of motion picture recommendations from Mike…I do like a good story. To Mike, Kate and Mike’s very kind parents – Jake and I can’t thank you enough for your hospitality and for sharing the peace and tranquility of this place.
